Pilates at Active Live Conditioning

Active Life Conditioning is Collingwoods newest most innovative Pilates, yoga  and Conditioning studio. We offer group mat Pilates for every age and fitness level. We also offer private mat Pilates.

Pilates and yoga work to improve flexibility, improve balance and posture, as well as tone and strengthen the entire body. The focus is on the core: waist, hips, butt, thighs, back and stomach.

At Active Life we believe strongly the current research into spinal health.  We emphasize the importance of neuromuscular integrity in both the local and global systems so support for the entire body is enhanced. The five core systems and a series of baseline exercises to ensure synergy amongst the systems are emphasized at every stage of the teacher training program. The objective is for teachers to know how to build stability for the lumbar spine with optimal range of motion in the pelvis/hips and thoracic spine.
We have modified and altered the original Pilates repertoire to meet the needs of certain conditions like osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and Multiple Sclerosis. And, since the everyday exerciser in the Pilates environment tends to be deconditioned, sedentary and a likely candidate for back pain, our programming goal is to always make Pilates accessible and safe. In short, we teach teachers to always fit the exercise to the person for optimal function.

Lisa Rennie

Background: Trained with Polestar Pilates out of Miami.
Athletic background in Synchronized Swimming for Univ. of Arizona, won NCAA Championships 1984. After retireing from Synchro, pursued bodybuilding for many years before moving to Collingwood in 1990. Owned my own Pilates studio for many years. Design dryland training program for Collingwood Clippers Swim Club.

Passion for Pilates: From a teaching standpoint, I love it because I have to always think! I enjoy figuring out the puzzle, when I see someone who isn't moving in a healthy movement pattern, I like to try and figure out what is going on. What is tight, weak, loose or too strong, and how can I help this person move better. And.......I see it work over and over again, thats the best part.
Benefits of working with me?: I think i have a really good eye. I can watch people move and begin to see where there may be a problem. I also like to laugh ;-), I enjoy working with people and seeing them improve and feel good in thier bodies.

Pilates value: As we go through life, we all develop muscle imbalances, whether it stems from competing at a high level in one sport or from poor sitting or standing habits. Pilates helps to put your body back in proper balance, and then works your muscles in the proper alignment to be strong. Helps to create space in your joints, good posture and balanced muscles.
